KAMAL HASSAN

Kamal Hassan is an Indian actor par excellence. He is famous for his versatility and creative skills in acting. Kalathur Kannama was his first film as a child artist which won him the President's Gold Medal. Since then he has acted in more than 150 movies, in Tamil, Telugu, Kannad, Malayalam and Hindi . Kamal Hassan was born on 7th November 1954 in Paramakudi, Tamil Nadu, India . He divorced Vani Ganpati and married Sarika and later divorced her in 2002. He has two daughters Shruti K. Haasan and Akshara.

K Balachander gave Kamal Hassan a break in his movie Apoorva Ragangal and since then he has never looked back. As a versatile actor he has performed diverse roles which prove his acting skills. His potential as an actor is evident in the films like 16 Vayadhinilae, Nayakan, Guna, Mahanadhi, Hey Ram, Sadma, Chachi 420 and Alavandaan, which are a class in themselves. He is trained in the classical dance form of Bharatanatyam and this art has enhanced his acting skills. Some of his Bollywood super hits are Ek Duje Ke Liye, Sadma, Sannam teri Kasam, Giraftaar, Saagar, Raj Tilak,and Chachi 420.

Kamal Hasan won the National Award thrice in the best actor's category for the films Nayagan, Moondram Pirai and Indian. He has won 18 filmfare Awards. He is the only actor whose six movies were sent to the Oscars as India's official entry. He was honored with the Padmashri in 1990 and Kalaimamani by the Government of Tamil Nadu. He was bestowed an honorary doctorate by Sathyabama University, Chennai in 2005. In 2007 he was honored as the "Living Legend" in the film business by FICCI.
